I don't know from where u got the information. But i have been booting linux
from pendrive from years (booting linux for installation redhat/fedora and
puppy linux) and I haven't damage the pendrive till now. The pendrive I have
been using for installing redhat is still working well.

May be it is the case with some body, who damage the pendrive but it may not
be due to booting from pendrive but other hardware problems.
A pendrive of same company can work for years or can be damaged with in
months. Thus, I thing if somebody had damaged pendrive while booting from
it, then it may be coincident.
