I am curious to know! (ofcourse, except things like looking source code of NTFS.SYS) [1] windows doesnt restrict you to take full control of your machine. you can always access ring 0 in both the OS. Its just that there is different way to acomplish the same thing in different platform. When you "speak" windows you are talking about Windows OS as a whole while LINUX stands for linux kernel only. I agree you could do amazing things in a "Linux distribution" which comes bundled with hundreds of amazing FOSS applications not available in windows in a standard build but like you download codec for mp3 or your favourate audio auditing software for your linux installation you could do the same, anyday in your windows OS to get full control of windows OS as you please with click of a button or CLI or dyi studying the built-in API's as you'll have to do with linux.
