oh yeah, these are apart from / after you actually know what you are doing.

Its always good to have good programming books
Things like data structures and minor scripting mistakes can have serious
security implications... it just matters on how easily you can spot those...
that can be gained only by experience or by working with/against other
hackers. I really think we need to understand more of the core systems than
focus on the superficial stuff  no matter how interesting they are... at the
end of the day, hacking is about learning about the system...
