HA NOI— The Communication and Information Ministry has recommended
Government agencies use open source software when using funds from the State
budget to purchase or implement IT projects.

The ministry issued a list of open source software which includes Open
Office, Thunderbird, Firefox and Unikey. A ministry official refused to
comment on whether the move was made as a means of reducing software
infringement in Viet Nam or stimulating demand for research.
