About you question to CCNA slides, don't you know CISCO also provides Linux version of course material. If possible get it. Problem regarding no display in browser may be problem of flash player. If you have installed flash player 8 or greater than, remember, it only playes CCNA slides if the files are in web server (you can user local hosting with apache or xampplite.
regarding "no ethernet found", do you have physical ethernet. I think there should be a physical ethernet, so that ethernet in vmware will communicate with it to your host. your usb problem,I am also facing same problem, in case of vmware under Linux.
