Hello to all Fossians,

Me and few others have been working for past few days on convincing NITC to
co-organize a workshop on *"An Alternative Perspective on Intellectual
Property Rights (IPR) in Information Technology (IT)"*. Our efforts have
paid off and we are all set to organise the workshop on the 16th of May,
2008. This workshop will be conducted at Annapurna Hotel (as for now, not
confirmed yet), and will totally be funded by NITC, with FOSS Nepal looking
after the Logistics of the workshop.

Just so that all of know what IPR is, I have copy and pasted this paragraph
on IPR from our wiki,

Intellectual property rights (IPRs), is a bundle of exclusive legal rights
given to the author, producer or any other creator, the particular form or
manner in which ideas are expressed, manifested or distributed (that is,
written, recorded invented, designed etc). Like physical assets, ownership
rights are given to the process of manufacturing, ingredients and their
composition, cultural creations, artistic products etc. which are usually
referred to as product of the mind or the intellect. IPR can take various
forms like copyright, patents, trademarks, trade secrets, designs and work
of art, trade or brand names, etc.

The primary participant of the workshop are going to be the IT focal points
of all the Ministries of Nepal Government, hence, this workshop is going to
help us pitch our beliefs and voice to a high level members of our
government. Therefore, this workshop is not only going to help people
understand better about IPR but also help them to know more about FOSS.

Rest of the information about the workshop can be found here,
http://wiki.fossnepal.org/index.php?title=IPR_Workshop . It has been very
well documented, thanks to Hempal Dai and Jwalanta.

Now since this is a pretty huge undertaking by our community, we will be in
need of some volunteers for the day. So, we would like to request you to
help us by volunteering for the workshop.

Cheers
