I had a short discussion with Subir Pradhananga about
scheduling a program on translation issue in Bhashaka
kura.
In current situation only the linguist and grammarian
are not translators. A tech guy is also a translator
or can be a best translator.
Creating a translation group and discussing each other
we can improve the volume and quality of Nepalese
languages in computer technology. In this and
following issues I want to schedule a talk program in
Bhashaka kura on 27 Ashad. I.e. July 11 2008. This
program can be little bit long 2-3 hours

General or traditional translation process did not
satisfy the requirement for new technology. As far as
I know traditional translation process like
handwritten text are not stuffiest for application
localization. In technical translation too many
people provide suggestions and correct each other with
a kind of quality assurance. This policy could be ok
for translations with few strings. But it doesn't
scale for the majority of the Neplese languages. So
the technique of good translation is more important to
us than getting a huge number of translated strings.

Keeping text in a best interchangeable format and
Keeping translated terms in secure place and high
lightening the changes between suggestion and approval
would make them more reusable. Mostly there are wrong
terms, typos or grammar issues. It needs changes in
time to time. Currently many people just start to
translate and in the end waste their time, since the
output does not meet the standards as well as
requirement.

If you take a look in many cases these are import
errors in applications. As far as I know the Nepali
team made a manual clean up of their translation after
up streaming. Would it be possible to reset the
translations by manipulating the database directly?
Have there been any internal changes that would make
this possible? I.e. modifying CAT tools? for example
launchpad for Ubuntu translators.

Currently there is not sufficient documentation of
Nepali or Nepalese language translation which is must
necessary for all and especially for new translators.
In this area the translation teams could collaborate
and write a common documentation and have to keep it
in central repository. Before resetting the database
we would make sure that all valuable translation would
be backed up as po, xliff, tmx or tbx file.
This practice is lacking.
Best practice
It would be nice if we see a kind of best practice of
discussion among the translation groups. Creating a
translation group and discussing each other we can
improve the volume and quality of Nepalese languages
in computer technology. What are the formal
requirements? Do we have translators with clear
responsibilities? Are we conducting a good practice
which will be an asset for the coming generation who
has to handle multilingual issue in technology in
their every step?
