I think the most scary part of cloud computing (i.e software/virtualisation/platform/storage delivery model)[0] is that it stores customer data. If we think about this, its not that different from existing web services and thin client architectures; The web service in a given cloud interfaces with other cloud's web service using a standard set of "agreed" API/Protocol. The thin client stores all the data required by the clients and executes processes on on their behalf. One way to go about resolving the former problem is to have strong encryption in place whereby only the clients have a valid private key to their data within the cloud (e.g. the DB).
