Hello,
Few weeks backs there was a post about a software called eBarnamala. This is
the snippet from its website http://www.bvs.edu.np/eBarnamala/

"*eBarnamala was conceived as a play thing for small children. *
The Programming effort was started exactly on 20th August, 2008, in Scratch
first, and then onto Python.
Currently the downloads are available as binary for windows and source for
all other platforms.
eBarnamala has been test on winxp (home and professional editions) and
Ubuntu Linux 8.04.
eBarnamala is written in Python and requires wxPython and PIL (Python
Imaging Library) for its operation.
It uses two fonts - Aalekh and Kalimati."

IMHO, I think it is a very good FOS software and a tremendous effort by BVS
to do some development based on Python. If I may say so, I have been
involved in reviewing (just reviewing) the software from its early days and
I have to admit that it has evolved beautifully. Without a doubt, it is
among the software that has the potential to make big in both rural and
urban schools and self-based learning centers. But, as with any product,
without a proper publicity and adaptation, the product never attains the
goal for which it is designed. Hence for this purpose, on behalf of FOSS
Nepal and the Programmer Mr. Prabin Joshi, I would like to request all the
FOSSians to distribute and use this software in every possible sites (i.e.
schools, learning centers, e-Libraries, etc) we have FOSSians have access
to.

See, its a known fact that without pushing and advertising no product and no
software can make big. The reason Ubuntu is big is because of the way Mark
Shuttleworth subtly but effectively advertises his product. Moreover, the
essence of FOSS has in some ways already been instilled into people's mind,
hence the definite next step forward now would be to push home grown
softwares like these into market and all the sites where FOSSians have
access. So, on behalf of eBarnamala and FOSS I would once again like request
members to firsty try it and use it in schools, learning centers,
e-Libraries, etc. I also wish to request organizations like KUOSC and FOSS
communities outside Kathmandu to distribute this software in there catchment
centers and schools.

This is among the first step towards transforming FOSS's image from just
being an ideology to a viable solution for both enterprise and public
sectors. So, I hope everyone in this list will take this opportunity and do
all that they can in their reach to distribute this software.

Cheers
