Hi all, Im a Danish programmer living in Nepal, Kathmandu until April. In Denmark im an assistant professor in conputer engineering, and have i.a. written 3 books on Java programming (http://javabog.dk).
Ive done 80% of the work on an Open Source tool for converting mixed Nepali documents using Nepali fonts to Unicode. The converter i revolutionary in comparision to what exists right now: - formatted Supports OpenOffice documents natively, and HTML, RTF (perhaps Ill even allow Word documents:-) through plugins - mixed Preeti, Kantipur, Courier, mixed formats etc are converted correctly, with all formatting intact - conversion tables are kept in user friendly spreadsheets (one for each font) - clipboard conversion - much more user friendly than existsing tools. F.eks. user does not need to know about or specify text encodings - a lot of other things All in all a biiiiig step forward for Digital Nepal !!! I did it with MPP but the problem is that now they don't have the resources to finish the job with me. So anyone for finishing http://code.google.com/p/nepaliconverter/ ? You'll have to know some Java and be ready to do (or delegate) the spreadsheet work for the font conversion tables (see http://code.google.com/p/nepaliconverter/source/browse/trunk/ConversionTools4/res/preeti_unicode.ods for an example). Perhaps some company could assign a developer to this and get great publicity when its finished and they can publish it in their own name (must remain Open Source, of course). I suppose 2 months on half time work for a developer is needed.
