Thank you *5th Global Students Forum on Engineering Education* *GloCal Engineer: Qualities and Competencies* 15th-23rd of May, 2009, St. Petersburg, Russia The Student Platform for Engineering Education Development (SPEED) in cooperation with the International Federation of Engineering Education Societies (IFEES) and the Russian Association for Engineering Education (RAEE) will gather 100 student leaders in St. Petersburg, Russia, May 15th-23rd, 2009, for the Global Student Forum (GSF) on Engineering Education. The GSF event is part of the 3rd IFEES Global Summit, which will draw academics, representatives from government, industry and non-profit organisations, and students from all around the world to discuss issues pertinent to engineering education. The GSF program will focus on developing thinking from a global perspective and providing a local applicability to students ideas. Students will share ideas and discuss the skills and competencies of a modern successful engineer and how to implement such current practices into curriculum in order to improve engineering education. Students will participate in a series of workshops, discussions, presentations and creation of action plans that will enable them to become a factor of change in the development of engineering education curriculum. The following years, SPEED co-organised the 2nd and the 3rd GSF with ASEE in Istanbul, Turkey and Cape Town, South Africa, and in cooperation with IFEES the 4th GSF in Bhubaneswar, India.
