Yes, you can use fonts like Preeti and Kantipur in Linux. If you need it just for a specific user, copy the TTF files for these fonts in .fonts sub-directory of the user's home folder.
Else to make it available for all users, copy the TTFs in /usr/share/fonts/truetype/ttf-devanagari-fonts.
