Step 3 also didn't work. Step 2 when run as normal user didn't work, but when run as root (prefixing the command with sudo) did run firefox. But I had to issue the command as sudo everytime i wanted to run firefox, which is not practical. when run in terminal, nothing is shown, no error messages, no warnings, nothing.
