Hi Deeps, Its not the monitor. Its the Graphics Card I suspect you are running X3100 Intel card. This card had support for 3D effects in 8.10 but in 9.04 Jaunty Jackalope, the support has been stripped due to some issues.
Hopefully that will be fixed later.
