Software Freedom Day 2009 celebrated in Nepal

FOSS Nepal Community observed the sixth International Software Freedom
Day (SFD) on Saturday, September 19.

The theme for this year's celebration in Nepal was "FOSS for
Enterprise". Minister for Information and Communication Shankar
Pokharel started the proceedings at Yala Maya Kendra in Patan Dhoka,
Lalitpur by unveiling a compilation of Free/Open Source Software
(FOSS) in a CD named "Nirvikalpa 2.0". Minister Pokharel also
announced the launch of revamped website of FOSS Nepal.

This year's SFD was organized in association with the High Level
Commission for Information Technology (HLCIT), National Information
Technology Center (NITC), Nepal Telecommunications Authority (NTA),
D2Hawkeye Services as Prime Sponsor and supported by Kathmandu
University (KU), Madan Puraskar Pustakalaya (MPP), Open Learning
Exchange (OLE) Nepal, Prime College, World Link, Digitrust Enterprise,
Janaki Technology, and many other ICT stakeholders and FOSS
contributors from Nepal and worldwide.

With the theme of "FOSS for Enterprise", Federation of Nepalese
Chambers of Commerce & Industry (FNCCI) was also part of the
celebration as the Celebrating Partner.

Programmes were also conducted in Chitwan, Dharan, and Pokhara by the
local chapters.

The day was celebrated by over 500 different volunteer groups in 120 countries.
