forward!)
To: Interested in SPEED <[email protected]>

Hello everyone,

In hopes of spurring action within SPEED, the executive committee has
decided to create some excitement and motivate us to work harder at
achieving our goals.

We are creating a competition in which the winners will be awarded a
scholarship to attend the 7th Global Student Forum in Singapore in October.
This competition is open to all official members of SPEED. If you are not
yet an official member you can easily become one and become eligible for the
competition here [

].

7th GSF Scholarship Contest: SPEED Your Community Impact

It is quite easy for each of us to take a little time and impact our
communities. There are many different ways to do so. For example, here is
what Vice President David Delaine does for his community impact: *“I have
committed to visiting at least one high school each month this year. What I
do is really fairly simple, I visit schools and speak to them about my
experience as an engineering student, what it is, what I have enjoyed and
disliked, and how it can be good for them and our world for them to choose
to become engineers. As a result, I have been mentoring a few young students
as they develop ambitions to become engineers. Through a minimal commitment
I have been able to create change, which is what SPEED is about.”*

As part of our challenge, we encourage you to do as much work within your
community which involves engineering education. This can be individual work
or through an organization; however, it will have to be shown that the
individual nominated is the one spearheading the initiative. If multiple
people work together it is possible to split the award. Initiatives can
include giving a presentation, tutoring, or any other type of activity that
actively engages people to be a part of the engineering education community.
This is open, and any initiative involving engineering education will be
included.

*description of award:*

   -

   travel
   -

   registration fee
   -

   housing
   -

presentation space to highlight your community impact activity

To nominate yourself for the award, all we will need is a write up (~ 2
pages) of the work you have done as well as one letter of recommendation
from a professional knowledgeable of the work you have performed.

In order to critically review, we will upload the top 5 submissions as
determined in a blind review by the executive committee and have the SPEED
community vote on the winner.

The submission deadline is *August 1* for the nomination. Submission format
is pdf or doc file. Email contact info must be included. Submissions and any
questions may be sent to *[email protected].*

This is a great way for us to flex our collective muscle and show that we
are an organization that has action behind its words.

Good luck!

SPEED Executive Committee
