Great going buddy!

All the good stuffs.

That's all nice and good :-)

If people are starting out with Arduino but like to take more control
over the AVR because they like programming in C or even just starting
out with C, then do get `avrdude` package (available on Debian and
Ubuntu) from the repository. As Ujwol pointed out you can create lot
of fun stuffs with arduino for e.g., you can create mesh network (with
zigbee module) and much much more (the possibilities are endless, you
just need a great idea and a good deal of hard work ;-)

Another resource that I've been recommended (besides the excellent
http://arduino.cc) is the legendary Aussie hacker Jonathan Oxer's book
`Practical Arduino`.

I intend to create something cool someday besides the usual toys that
everyone creates during the course of learning. Till then check out
this cool little penetration tester
http://www.hak5.org/episodes/episode-725 :-)

Enjoy!
