Wow. An unhealthy discussion going over here. Boy I love getting into an
unhealthy discussions. ;) My nature, your bad :)
*The Nube,*
Oracle is widely used in system because of its clustering features and
its proprietary algorithms that makes searching optimized and fast. The
code once it promised to contribute to Linux Kernel but never heard any
news after that. (Its the proprietary algorithm that enables fast
searching not clustering features).
You are wrong, "Database aren't alike br0". Only the fundamentals are
alike as they are all SQL. Each database system provide its own set of
features. Oracle is preferred in large scale data house because of its
features which is hardly possible from database systems like mysql or
its fork.
*Akash,*
Nice point there. This is a FOSS group and a non-FOSS discussion can be
fairly considered healthy.
*Rina,*
You seem to me like a Oracle speak-person to me rather than an
enthusiast. You are just bragging about how many organisations are using
them. Let me state you a fact. I recently anyone outside or within Nepal
are using Oracle like system then they are all morons. They just don't
understand how fast the world has moved on with clustering and data
warehouse technologies. Many big organisation have implemented such
workarounds using opensource software not to minimise the cost but
because of the flexibility. If you really are who you state then I would
suggest you to move to other system. May be take a break. Read some
article about how organisations like twitter have implemented opensource
software in their firm. Judging my your interest I think you are a
Bachelor's student if you aren't pretending. Take your time study OS
systems. May be you can prepare a journal and get it published in a
magazine. That would be healthy for your career and you might get a
scholarship for your Graduation too ;)
Peace
