Hi,

In the sound settings
1. Go to the output tab. in the dropdown list Connector: select "Audio
Headphones".
2. Go to the input tab, in the dropdown list Connector: select "Microphone 2"
3. Open alsamixer in gnome-terminal
  i. Muting the "Front" mixer will mute speaker but sound will be
available through headphones.
ii. Unmuting the "Front" mixer will cause both the headphone and
speaker to make sound

I have tried this on my Asus K40AB on Fedora 14 and Fedora 15, may
work on your computer as well.

Thanks
Sandip Tiwari
