I came here regarding a similar problem. I have a weak signal (my phone wont get it). So i used to setup a hostednetwork on windows which let me share the wifi connection (connected through the wireless card) over the same card. It worked with no problems.
Now I plan to exclusively use ubuntu and want to see if there is a similar feature so i can access internet on my phone. I dont think the methods mentioned above worked for me.
