Hi all wiki contributors,
Although it is too late to intimate on the Wiki editing, but
it'll help you in future as well. Please follow the following guidelines
while editing FOSS Nepal's Wiki:
1. While creating a new page:
- Make sure that the title is appropriate. As for example, I've seen
pages for SFD 2012 (ISO Team Page), but it does not relate to SFD any how.
- Do not make unnecessary/stray pages.
- Make sure that the page you create has a link on the front page or
some other page. This helps preventing creation of stray pages
that are not
linked/viewed.
2. While editing an existing page:
- Make use of heading levels as appropriate. It helps to maintain the
asthetics of the page, and keeps the content organized.
- Use numbered list and bullets, if you want to mention something in
points.
- If you need to put a person's name on the page, and that person is
also a wiki user, it is worth putting his profile link as a hyperlink to
his name.
- Put page categories wherever needed. As for example, for SFD 2012
related pages, put [[Category:SFD2012]] at the end of the page. This will
help group common pages together under a category. I've
currently put that
category on all pages for SFD2012. Ex:
http://wiki.fossnepal.org/index.php?title=Category:SFD2012
- It is usual that we generally have to edit pages in a haste, but it
is better to take care of the page design and spacing. This
makes the page
more readable. Also make sure the captalizations and grammar go in place.
- Break long pages and make linked sub-pages whenever required.
3. Enjoy Wiki-editing!!
