i believe you are trying to access your disk from a linux box. I had the same problems a couple of times. Ubuntu showed mine as a read-only file system, but i couldn't even access it from windows.
This is certainly the last thing you should try, but here's what i did to fix the issue: format it! You probably can't use the GUI on ubuntu for this. I certainly can't. In fact i believe there is a bug report filed. Just use the terminal and you should be fine. As for the data that's going to be lost, I am sorry i have a little idea about that. Good luck!
