thanks Rho actually i used hi-itrans method from the m17n-contrib project as a starting point for this input. there are several types of keyboard methods for indian languages hindi, bengali assamese and what not but there are only two methods for nepali ne-rom and ne-trad both are incomplete, the very reason behind this initiative.
i was looking for some help from our community on this. Few specific areas the community can contribute on is - Directly contributing to source code is always welcome. m17n mim are written in some form of lisp but you dont need to know the language to get things done, I personally dont know much of it but was able to tinker around and copy paste to get things done. There is a comprehensive guide on writing mims<http://www.nongnu.org/m17n/manual-en/m17nDBTutorial.html> . - I am accustomed to the traditional layout (ba ka ma na) and romanized typing does not come naturally to me specially when i see devanagiri characters. Feedback and suggestions from native users of romanized/transliterated layouts would be very useful here. You can report issues in the issues section in github - I have tested this on Ubuntu 12.04, can somebody verify this on other distros as well. Just to grab attention of the community here is the gist of what we are trying to achieve To build a more intuitive input method -- less things to memorize which means easier adoption. Something similar to Google transliterate or Deepak Khanal's http://unicodenepali.com/ which runs offline and should allow typing in other applications as well not just a browser. *देवनागरी* *in ne-romyou type* *in ne-rom-translityou type*मलाईmla{ malaai ठिटोQiqoThiToजाउjaFjaau Some more usage examples here<https://github.com/sapradhan/ne-rom-translit/wiki/Usage-examples>. Background info and other details here<http://nepalitankan.blogspot.com/2013/11/ne-rom-translit.html> Lets collaborate to make this a success, I am sure many will benefit from this. धन्यवाद On Saturday, November 9, 2013 11:20:36 AM UTC+5:45, Rho wrote: > > santosh also check the m17n contrib db there are more keyboard layouts. > -- -- FOSS Nepal mailing list: [email protected] http://groups.google.com/group/foss-nepal To unsubscribe, e-mail: [email protected] Mailing List Guidelines: http://wiki.fossnepal.org/index.php?title=Mailing_List_Guidelines Community website: http://www.fossnepal.org/ --- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "FOSS Nepal" group.
