Dear All, I believe that some students are benefited after the presentation at KU with the following topic. Some of you might be interested on it.
=============================================================================================================================== Questions ? or Answers ?: Lesson learned from project failure Abstract Undergraduate as well as graduate students are required to complete at least a major project during their engineering/science study. In this context, somehow the students have to resolve or do something to answer on the known problems i.e. the problems and solutions does not have to be novel. Understanding the problem domain and coming up with a strong problem statement could also be the entire research study. Most of the students struggle and are lost to justify their project methodology. This understanding is accepted by all leading universities of Nepal and around the world. Blurred understanding of their project question leads to: (a) inappropriate mode of supervision (b) confusion in searching for the best solution and (c) weak thesis or reports. In numerous cases, students have been unable to produce a good project/research output because of their deficiency in the fundamental courses such as linear algebra, theory of probability, automata theory, computational complexity and data structure. This talk focuses on my experience in supervising the commercial and academic project/research work usually carried out by the undergraduate/graduate, engineering/science students. Plentiful project examples are prepared to discuss during the talk. Some of the projects have a well-established and accepted solution and following a disciplined plan leads to a good project completion. Some projects require you to choose between solutions and the plans are less certain. And there are some projects that are exploratory as the problem is not clearly understood. Such problems you can explore in your lifetime. ================================================================================================================================== -- Santa B.
