OLE Nepal (www.olenepal.org) is a social benefit organization dedicated to promote universal access of educational resources through the development of the digital library E-Pustakalaya, (www.pustakalaya.org/) which has grown into one of Nepal's largest free and open digital library.
A total of 23 community schools in Gorkha District are equipped with the offline E-Pustakalaya servers, and we are looking for energetic and enthusiastic individuals interested in being a part of this pioneering project. Duration: The volunteers will spend one week at the OLE Nepal office in Sanepa, Lalitpur, learning about technology, digital resources, pedagogy, education system, and community relations. Then they will spend the next one months in Gorkha providing technical support to the schools. Teams of two volunteers will move from school to school, spending about one and half day at each school working with both the teachers and students to make maximum use of E-Pustakalaya. All the costs including travel to and from Gorkha, food and lodging stipend, and other miscellaneous expenses will be covered by the program. Benefits of the program: ■ Gain field level experience in applying technology in school education ■ Learn how technology can improve education quality and access ■ Acquire technical skills about networking, computer troubleshooting, handling XO laptops hardware/software, server setup and maintenance. ■ Get first hand knowledge about life in rural communities ■ Gain insights into challenges facing public education ■ Develop interpersonal skills Criteria for volunteers: ■ Anyone with the Computer Science, Education, Social Work or Rural Development background.(preferably) ■ Able to spend one and half months in a remote area ■ Mature disposition with sound communication skill in Nepali ■ Able to work independently without supervision ■ Enjoy working with children If you are interested contact me ASAP.
