Rationale
* ArchLinux is the distro of choice and we have been using it for the last
7-8 years and we will continue to use it. Our demo and sessions will have
ArchLinux based implementations and deployments.
* Given our AMD64 (and not Intel) and Qemu+KVM focus, enforcing any single
distro will get in our way. Folks can use any GNU/Linux distro as long as
they can run Qemu.
* We get to learn about the quirks and pecularities (eg. file locations,
default values), packaging or version restrictions and bugs encountered in
GNU/Linux distributions.
* We will also keep an eye on Qemu interplay with NetBSD [1] (eg.
NVMM+virtio) and Qemu with FreeBSD [2].
1. https://www.netbsd.org/docs/guide/en/chap-virt.html
2. https://wiki.freebsd.org/qemu
* This will keep the path open for creative contribution in the AMD64+Qemu
space.
What do you think ?
@Saifi
Here's what I think:
* We continue to use Archlinux from our side
* Folks from the community have the freedom to use which distro they
like, using Qemu.
Yes, it is important to understand the quirks and pecularities of
GNU/Linux distributions.
I think it is a good idea, we should discuss this as well in our today's
meet.
