* defect tracking system

leaning towards the idea of using a tracker where the item tracked could be

- defect
- action item
- artifact
- cve
among others.

the tracker should be hosted on strikr.io website.

a comprehensive list is at
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Roundup_(issue_tracker)

the top 3 most common are

- RT
- Bugzilla
- Roundup

they are all nice but not so nice to be used at Strikr free software project.

usecase

- a contributor is working on the shell and encounters a error situation. (s)he
should continue using the shell interface to report the issue without having to
start X window and then a browser. the flow is broken with wait time and all
kinds of GUI clikc business.

- a user should be able to send a plain-text email with attachment to the
tracker to report a issue, suggest an idea or enhancement.

- project maintainer should be able to see the number of days elapsed between
reporting an issue and its closure. this will help us adjust our sprint size.

- a contributor should be able to discretize and publish the TODO item(s) to
the tracker on a item by item basis.

- support for expressing dependency among artifacts.

- support for CLI interface without any login. one time publishing of GPG key
and (s)he should be good to go.

- web interface is for read-only and seeing details of the issues_open,
issues_closed, details of an issue.

Saifi.
