Greetings. Wished to have answers to below queries.

  1. Is odd number in version mean the experimental version?
  2. How to decide which version is good for a new team? Latest
  stable?
  3. How maintenance is handled considering so many versions? For
example, any security patch must be applied to so many version?

in the PERL 5 family,

5.x where x = 8, 10, 12, 14, ... is STABLE and can be used in production.

Any version of PERL, LISP or modern C++ is good for a team which is
'engineering oriented', knows how to build software, apply patches and
roll-back changes.

As is the case, engineering at scale is always powered by automation. PERL
community is exceptionally erudite !
