I've now built the current fossology trunk on Ubuntu 8.10 as well as
Debian 5.0 and I've successfully uploaded and analysed a small
specimen tarball whose license-content I know. Looks good :)
I'll be interested in doing a heavy-duty test. I have a Symbian OS
source archive containing about 3.5GB of code. Can you make any
recommendations about the sort of machine spec I will need to run a
license analysis of this within 24 hours? - or a weekend?
The development machine I use has PostgreSQL running on one HP DL-360
and two other DL-360's running as agents. I think the agent machines
have 12GB and we run on three cores on each of those two agent
machines. So we have 6 parallel processes with plenty of memory
running as agents. Using a Debian DVD iso as a test (it's 4.37 GB and
1.5 million files), unpack ran in 5 hours. The license analysis ran
in about 2 weeks. This might even be optimistic because this was
loaded into a repository that already had other packages loaded, so
many of the files were already analyzed (files don't get reanalyzed
when they are loaded from some other package/file/distro/...).
We have another system (I'll give you access to use if you wish). It
runs more agent machines:
The Fedora 9 source DVD (5.2 M files, 4 GB)
unpack 11 hrs
license 2.5 days
BTW, this is why we are working on two new license agents that (so
far) are much faster than the existing one.
