I am definitely not opposed to looking into HP even if you might have a
biased opinion. (I do think you have a valid opinion though especially since
you use the hardware :-). That's enough for me to go HP considering you use
them for Fossology. Definitely not a bad thing being biased! :-)

I did however want to know more about the storage recommendations. I did
mention to our guy pricing this server that we should/could look at a RAID
setup (I said preferably RAID10) for performance and redundancy. However I
wasn't sure about how intensive it is on read/write operations although I'm
guessing quite a bit since it keeps scanning and using the repo.

I found that using a Git server for code repositories on Virtual servers is
bad because of the constant reading/writing seeking that Git does it was
better to have a dedicated server (not virtual) and possibly fast seeking
storage (although your gaining performance by not opting for Virtualization
servers in itself).

I mentioned to him that RAID may be a nice to have and not a need to have
since I didn't know if THAT would be our bottleneck for this dedicated
single server. I also mentioned with RAID buying the additional Hard Drives
would also increase the cost, which may be a determining factor in to RAID
or not to RAID. I guess I'd have to propose if we need it or not and how
much it benefits us/me.

I do have a strong voice for recommendations on this because I will
administer it and if I will need to backup/restore it then I will need to
make sure I will be able to restore it correctly. In addition, he did state
down-time isn't so critical for RAID-fault-tolerance because a 2-3-day
restore is acceptable and this will not be a mission critical type system,
but will need to fully recover with given time. Also budget for this is
somewhere between $6 - $8K so not sure what the HP Blade servers cost.

What other storage considerations would you or anyone else recommend? RAID
or no RAID? Is the 1TB 7.2K RPM Serial Attached SCSI (SAS) drives okay as
opposed to some RAID config?
