A few times now people have come to me wanting to integrate FOSSology with
their build process. This isn’t specifically addressed in our docs yet so I
want to mention here how to do it for at least one case.

Scenerio 1

Problem:
We have a script that scans for new versions of software (distro, package,
project source, …) and adds them to a local mirror. We need FOSSology to tell
us if a “bad” license shows up.

Solution:
In your script include a cp2foss command
(see
http://www.fossology.org/projects/fossology/wiki/Using_FOSSology_from_the_Command_Line)
This loads your new software into fossology and tells it what agents to run.
Make sure you specify the fossology bucket agent and you have a bucket that
shows you your “bad” licenses.
FOSSology will email you when the job is complete and give you a link to the
upload. Click on it and view the bucket report.

That’s all there is to it.

ps. Are you looking for ways to help the FOSSology project? We are always
looking for testers, code developers, writers, anyone with ideas for making it
better. Also, we are looking for a public server to run our continuous
integration process.

pps. Would you like to see FOSSology under a software foundation like the
Software Freedom Conservancy, the Linux Foundation, …?
