perfSONAR has a much more robust set of tools; albeit with greater
administrative overhead and potentially greater hardware rollout.

We use it to monitor one-way latency, throughput (v4&v6), and jitter across our
core network (NI XMRs). Those same nodes also provide testing points for other
operators who would like to segment network paths. Finally, the same nodes
provide end users a test point via web browser tools via Java Applets that
provide more detail than a simple SpeedTest.net result. We've not found the
time to build shippable Mac Mini (or similar hardware) that we could send to
the site that will automatically test to the nearest pS node. I think the
functionality is there; we've just been too busy to fully explore that idea.
