What you also can do while developing, is to write your application
into ram, as indicated in the link I gave when I replied the first
time to this thread.
/var/tmp is mapped on RAM in the RFS, so you can write a tig times
(minus 1...) to that location without harming your device.

Only when you have a more or less stable version, you can write it
into flash.

At least, that's what I'm currently doing...

And of course, like John states, you can use other (more easy
replaceable) Flash memory, like USB sticks.
