Its been a while for me but isn't there a foxtar utility
on the 70 series platform ?  This of course presupposes
that a tar formatted floppy is OK.

An even simpler approach os to use DOS diskettes
on Solaris and then do nothing special on Wintel.

See "format -d" and "mount /pcfs" commands.
