Re: Netscape.ad file
If you make the changes that you want, then copy the file to
/usr/openwin/lib/app-defaults/Netscape, the changes will show up the next
time you invoke Netscape. This is fine for changing text and things like
that, but eliminating menubars has proven to be a little more complicated.
In the options menu there are menu selections to show/hide the various tool
bars, i.e. Menubar, Toolbar, Location, DirectoryButtons, etc. Select the
menus that you wish to hide, and then select 'Save Options'. The menubars
have now disappeared!
Well, almost. If you chose the "Show Menubar" option you can't select the
'Save Options' button because it is in the Menubar which we just got rid
of. What's a poor engineer to do? Now use the netscape -remote method to
save the options. Just enter 'netscape -remote 'saveOptions()' at the
command line. Now, everytime that you call up netscape it should be running
in 'Kiosk' mode.
To get the menubar back, I think that if you shutdown netscape, then edit
the file /.netscape/preferences and change the line "SHOW_MENUBAR:
False" to "SHOW_MENUBAR: True", then your menubar should reappear.
I am not sure whether hot-keys are still active when the menubar disappears.
If experimentation proves that they still work, then you can disable them by
using the Netscape.ad file.
