I don't think it will work. Sun X Terminals use
* rarp, which is a broadcast protocol initially, to get the initial IP
address.
* tftp to get the kernel from the same server that replied to the rarp
request
* NFS to mount it's file systems and fonts.
Of the 3 rarp is not routable, ie it can't be on another subnet. I have
not seen reference to any routers being able to proxy rarp either which
can be done with bootp/dhcp.
Your alternatives are.
1. Put another ethernet card in the boot server and put it on the other
network.
2. Put a boot server on the new subnet. You can pick up cheap second
hand SUN boxes for a song. It doesn't need much disk space, memory or
CPU grunt just to boot X Terms. You could use a linux box in lieu of the
sun box but it would be a non-trivial job to set it up and the nice GUI
configuration utility would be unavailable.
3. Replace the SUN XTerm with another like a Tektronix/NCD which can
have the IP address/settings stored in EEPROM. I have booted these
across subnets in the past.
