I found that /opt/ia/.profile script was changed in v4.3 that screwed up
the colors displayed on displays built with the old color Palette.
Turns out that the changes FOXBORO made to how they start up "blink_task"
caused this problem.
To fix this issue you can hack the .profile and put the blink_task back to
the old way it started.
Which will also has an added bonus of allowing you to get more than one DM
at a time (ie/ DM from AW1 and DM from AW2 at same time).
I haven't tried this but I heard that this is another work around:
There is a bug in V4.3 with "blinktask" in relating with
remote DM's on X-terminals of Exceed PC's.
In V4.3 you have to explicitely define which "WP color" file you are
planning to use "sys_pal.wp50" I have altered the coding as following.
(.profile or other script used to start your DM-session)
/usr/fox/wp/bin/blink_task -f -b -r -hb 5 -sig
/usr/fox/wp/data/sys_pal.wp50 &
Notice that you have to explicitely declare
"/usr/fox/wp/data/sys_pal.wp50"
I hope this helps you to solve the problem

Subject: RE: DM Question: EXCEED colors
Hi!
I have a very strange "problem" with my EXCEED colors.
As I said in my previous email, I'm using PSEUDO colors in EXCEED
and TRUE color in my video driver but I can't see 32 IA colors in one of my
AW51b ("bad" AW5b). BUT I see without any problem all colors (including
blink ones) in another AW51b with the same PC configuration. In fact, if I
open first open the "good" AW51b I can see all the colors. Then, when I open
the "bad" AW51b
all colors appears! Why?
I think that there is a "color palette" in the IA that EXCEED uses
when the DM is open the first time... What's the file?
Regards.

Pedro and the rest,
Having the ability to configure your system with true color
support and have blinking colors is a problem which can only be solved with
eXceed 6.1 or higher and some other X servers available to day (Reflection
is one that come to mind).
Basically your options are correct: you must have "Pseudo
Color" support whenever you select more than 256 color depth in Windows. When
selectin Pseudo Color you must select "true color" in your video driver.
(i.e. true color, 24bit 32bit but NOT high color)
This is the ONLY supported configuration. Other MAY work but
there's no warranty whatsoever.
The good news: There is NO warranty anyway. Having true
color and blinking colors at the same time can be ruined by the video driver
you have. Try to get the latest one (or better: get to the one that works
best).
I disagree with the remark that it does not bring any
advantages as oppsed to having 256 colors.
For instance our beloved "clippy the lovely Office
assistent" can consume a lot of the standard availbale colors in which case
you can end up with a desktop blinking at the rate of the blink task because
the working color palette is changin to accomdate clippy's needs.
Many applications these days assume more than 256 colors
available, so it is nice go have more.

Subject: DM Question: EXCEED colors
I'm using EXCEED 6.1 in a W'NT PC with DM in an
AW51b.
I have configured >16MM colors in my graphic card
and PSEUDO COLOR in my EXCEED but I only can view the first 16 IA color and
not blinking at all.
Any help?
