Another source of problems could be that someone left the ICC open on the
volume you were trying to shrink.

Try to shrink it again by hand and see if you still have the problem.

                I _think_ all the later errors are trigered by the shrink
problem,
                but I am not certain of this.

                Any insight would be greatly appreciated.
