There was athread a week or so ago about browser access to Foxboro
data. At the
time I did not have any good pointers. However I have since come
across a package
that seems well suited for this. Take a look at:

     http://mish231.cern.ch/RView/Docs/RView.htm

This appears to be a great way of doing this, although it would
require redong
the graphics, and writing a little code to access the OM database.
Probably not
as nice as something to simply webify the Foxboro graphics, but should
really
save money on those reote display licenses.

Frits,

There are a couple of products I've used or heard of. One actually works,
the other I haven't seen work yet. Web @ aGlance is a product by Intuitive
Technologies that works in conjunction with an @ aGlance/IT server to
display live data in a graphical format in a browser using Java. Of
course,
you must have an @ aGlance/IT server getting the data from the I/A system,
like with OSI PI or SimSci AIM, or Aspen's PIMS package. You could also
buy
an @ aGlance/IT server independently, but you'd have to build a FoxAPI
application to get the data to it, which OSI, AIM and Aspen already will do
for you. You also must have Microsoft's Internet Information Server as
your
web server, although they were working on porting to Apache last I heard.
The graphics builder is very similar to Wonderware, if you've ever seen
that, and the results are fairly good. I built an application using
SimSci's @ aGlance/IT server and IIS 4.0, and it ran great. There were
some
early issues with Aspen's modeling software running on the same server
constantly crashing it, but that wasn't @ aGlance's fault, and they were
resolved.

VNC, a GNU product you can download for free, also purports to display Unix
OpenLook or Motif displays in a Java window in a browser. I have not seen
that work yet. I have downloaded it, and I was hoping to play with it, but
I haven't had time yet. I'll let you know how I make out if I ever get to
it.

Web @ aGlance can be seen at www.aglance.com <http://www.aglance.com> .

VNC is at www.uk.research.att.com/vnc/ <http://www.uk.research.att.com/vnc/

Subject: viewing process variables from a web browser

Someone posted a URL a while back about some controls (ActiveX or Java,
don't remember) that could be incorporated into a web page to display
live data. Since I can't seem to be able to find the archive of the
mailing list, does anyone remember the URL ?

If anyone has other URL's to such controls (preferably Java), could you
post ?

Thanks,
