There are a couple of things that can lock up the Alarm Manager. One is
when the Alarm Alert Database no longer matches what is in the Alarm Manager
Display. This usually happens when you have alot of alarms in a short
period. With the lost connection the Alarm Manager hangs up.
One way to alleviate the problem is to change the number of alarms
stored in memory from 200 (default) to 1000 in the init.user file.
Uncomment out the line MAX_CAD=200 and change it to equal 1000.(This is only
available for 51 workstations at 4.2 or greater) Also tell the operators
not to be heavy fingered on the Acknowledge button. In other words don't
rapidly push the Acknowledge button over and over.
The message you see when you shut down the AW is normal. You get it
weather the Alarm manager is working or not. You can also shut down the
Alarm Manager without rebooting the AW using "stpcad" or # pref -LBUG amcmd
"quitam on; exit". To restart it just select the ALARM menu pick.
I hope this helps.......................
