We have a 51E with a 90 Gig drive which rolled over in a large sense a couple
of weeks ago, we lost our data from the RAID but had backup tapes and had to
rebuild the AW configuration to recognise the RAID, a long process.
There had been a series of failures over a couple of months prior to this:
First a disk went bad, we replaced it, all looked well.
A few months later the RAID controller drive mapping went ga-ga, the AW
shutdown. After a lot of phone cooperation from our Foxboro RAID guru. we got
it re-mapped and working, all looked well.
Two weeks later, it looked like another disk went bad and during the repair
process we found that the disk was indeed bad, but also a holster (the thing
the disk slides into) was bad too.
It took a long time and a lot of effort to get this fixed, but I found the
RAID manufacturers (a company called "Dothill", used to be Artecon) support
people to be of the highest calibre in terms of their technical knowledge and
their willingness to help me.
Feel free to make direct contact if you would like the full story.
Regards,
Gabriel.
