Stefano
 hads some success with re-building the commit disk from the various files
on the system.

Rough procedure is to generate a commit disk and list the files on it. (tar
tvf) 

Then tar off files from the system onto the commit disk. (this ensures disk
stamp is correct)

It all depends on the size of the system as to whether it is worth the
attempt or just bite the bullet !!
