RoByn wanted me to keep you guys posted on Maxine...so here's her latest
report:

Let me explain in detail so that some of the confusion may be cleared up.

Maxine had meningitis and a staph infection. This damaged a valve that they
replaced during the open heart surgery. The surgery went very well. Her
heart started beating on its own and didn't even require a pacemaker. Maxine
is currently on a respirator and on dialysis. These are expected to be short
term things to help her recover from the infection and to ease some of the
stress on her body. Her lungs and kidneys are functional as far as they
know. The steroids and antibiotics she needs to fight the infections are
causing her diabetes to spike to dangerous levels despite an insulin IV.
This is another cause for concern.

The speech center of her brain has been affected by the infection. She has
also had a stroke. As she is going to remain sedated for the next day or
two, we do not know the extent of the damage. She is expected to need
extensive rehab once she is out of the hospital.

Joe is hanging in there. When I spoke to him yesterday, he was heading out
to work.

The Bairds are deeply religious people. I have told Joe how many people have
written to say that they are praying for Maxine. Your prayers and positive
energy are a source of strength and comfort to them.

Thank you.

RoByn

When I hear more, I'll let you know...
