I know this story is a bit late, but my schedule has been crazy lately and I haven't had much time to post.
My Halloween was a lot of fun this year, albeit busy!!! lol! I started the day with face painting in the morning at my daughter's preschool. The kids were so cute and it was a riot watching them try so hard to sit patiently for their turn! I painted mostly cheek art and a few cute tigers, princesses and such. Of course, I had to paint the teachers and the owner/director of the preschool before I left. It WAS Halloween after all!! My afternoon was filled with private appointments for face painting. I have to say, that I really love working this way. Having clients come to me (instead of travelling to them) is so much nicer. Although, it really didn't seem to save me much time! I had committed to make dinner for my brother and his family for that night (we usually travel a few towns away to trick-or-treat with them each year). During my "break" I whipped up my brother's fav chicken and noodle dish and threw it in the oven. I was just about finished up when the telephone rang. It was our local news station calling to talk to me about a possible interview. It turns out that the anchorwoman is the daughter of the director of MY daughter's preschool. She had been to visit her mom and saw my face art. Her mom told her all about me and my "fantastic" designs. lol. So we start chatting while I'm cleaning up from cooking and getting ready for my next client to show. She starts to tell me how she would love to interview me some time and do a story on me. She wants to know about my next big event where they can see me in action. I of course, open my fat mouth and say "It's too bad you couldn't come this afternoon, 'cause I've been painting people all day for Halloween". She then says "Oh that would be great! Can we come over?" "Ummmmmmmm. yes?", I say. Mind you...it's 3:30pm and she is planning on coming over with a camera crew at 4:00!!! Needless to say I just about freaked out! I was a mess! I hadn't done a thing with my own makeup or hair and I hadn't asked my next clients if THEY were okay with this!!! LOL! So my next appointments show up at 3:45, a friend of mine (a local policeman and his daughter). I ask if THEY were okay with being on TV. Thankfully, they said it was okay. Whew!!! They were my last clients (until after trick-or-treating) so we chatted for a few minutes waiting for the news crew to show up. I decided to start painting Shelbe and the news crew showed up just after I started. They taped a bit of me painting the "pretty pirate" and asked me a lot of questions about what I do. afterward they taped me start to finish painting my friend, George. I DID mention using safe face paints, that I love Snazaroo the best, I plugged the two conventions that I will be teaching at (FPBA Convention in Orlando and Kim Hatch's East Coast Face Painting and Ballooning seminar in Manchester, CT). I also made sure to mention that many of the techniques I used were taught to me by other fantastic artists and instructors. I mentioned that the orange monster I was painting on George was not my own design, but a design taught to me by the fabulous Kerry Ann Smith. Of course, didn't all of THAT get cut from the footage??? Aarrgghh!!! I think the only "props" that stayed in the video was when I mentioned the Wolfe Bros. Anyway, moving on....they told me the video would air that night on the news at 10 and 11 (not that I would be home to see it). After the news crew left, we packed up the kids and headed to my brothers house. Had dinner (my fabulous chicken and noodle dish, lol) and got the kids ready for trick-or-treating. The kids had a great time going house to house. My three-year-old had a blast this year. We all headed home around 7:30 and I had my next appointment ready to go at 8pm when we got there (these were friends I was going out with that night). I finished my 8:00 rather quickly and thought I'd have a few minutes to get dressed and start painting myself, when my NEXT appt showed. By the time I finished getting her done (costume and all) I had little time for me to finish getting dressed and ready to go to our party. Sadly, I never got to paint myself. :o( I had planned to be a "dead dominatrix" all "zombified" and creepy. I had enough time to basically throw in some contact lenses and splatter a bit of "blood" on my mouth /face. I slicked my hair back with water and we were out the door. It did end up being a fun night out with my friends. I got a text at 10:02 from one of my friends (who stayed in) telling me that I was the opening story on the news!!! Woo-hoo! They did a good three minute piece on me and plugged my website too! My hubby just got the video uploaded, so I thought I would share with you all. My "three minutes of fame". lol!!! I'll post some pics later too!!
