Arla, Luckily for me, since the very first Convention in 2002, I have never ended up in the "red" producing this event. (Knock on wood!;o) But it would be VERY easy to do so, if you don't keep a close eye on your pennies AT ALL TIMES!. It is true, that sometimes up until the last minute, some things you cannot control do not come into fruition,( like sleeping rooms nights being filled to "pay your ballroom rental") One has to keep in mind that the hotel contracts, Convention needs and financial liabilities, are anticipated and contracted for, a year in advance of the event..................... BEFORE our recession and shaky economy slowed everyone down this year. But fortunately for me, it all worked out in the 11th hour. So, it's all good! ;o)
I do like the idea of the Indiana Conference space tho for an event. I have been there for the FCM, years ago. That is one of my favorite "event" memories. It's a wonderful environment.! Can't see a "committee" hosting the Convention tho, as who wants to sign the dotted line on the contract and be responsible "if it does not work, or is not supported". That's a tough responsibility. Ask all past event producers.
