"1) Have any of you done this before? I thought I'd take a friend to do the "dog" work so there's no cross contamination."
I've painted my dog's nose bridge when she gets too close when I practice (She looks so funny and pathetic with it. LOL) and I've sprayed a Nike stripe on a short haired dog when a friend asked me to (His name was Sneakers), but I've never done this in a "money-taking" situation. "2) Can you think of any reason this might irritate the dogs skin?" Unlike humans, doags have a thick coat of hair to protect them from the elements. This could trap the glitter UNDER the hair and keep it next to the skin. Being hex-cut, the glitter "shouldn't" irritate the skin, but I think a veterinarian would be the best one to ask. "3) What suggestions might you have for a way to make it stick to the hair? I wouldn't want to use anything "adhesive". I was thinking some kind of hair gel and patting the glitter down on top of it while it's "wet"." I would go with something that is okay for canines to ingest. corn syrup comes to mind, but it's sweet smell might attract another dog or insect. Paula's suggestion of vaseline is a good one, trouble is it won't dry. "Dog people love their dogs as much as they do their kids and I'm sure would spend money to make them look glamorous. Thoughts? Suggestions? Am I crazy?" People will buy fancy collars, bows/ribbons, beds, bandannas, etc., but few will allow someone to apply products directly to their animal's fur. That being said, stranger things have happened. The decision is ultimately yours. Kat B.
