I've been on tv a few times the last time (back in 2004) It was a local cable show - and they "interviewed" me for the whole show - and I did demos and had props, etc. It was fun... however, no attributabe increase in calls or work from that exposure. Just... oh you were on television weren't you? type remarks.
I am in the newspaper pretty regularly and while it raises my profile, I don't usually get a spike in calls. More of an awareness amongst those who already have heard of me or saw me somewhere and didn't remember my name. It keeps my corporate clients up-to-date and gets their events in the paper too... All publicity is good as it does increase awareness but it is really hard to say that any specific exposure generated more work in the short term.
