As I sit and wait for the "trick or treaters" this all Hallows Eve, I began reminiscing about the facepainting conventions. I started flipping through my old photo albums with their fun themes: Mardi Gras (2002) Wild in the Jungle (our favorite!) Under the Sea,Out of this World (San Francisco) Midsummer Night's Dream, Cirque de Fantasie, Pirates and the Caribbean and Storybooks and Fairy tales. I can't help notice the amazing transformations that have taken place through the years in the painting styles and abilities.
I am so proud of this Convention, and all it has offered the face and bodyart community. I am amazed at how it has really helped to elevated this art to the max. And, how each and everyone of you that have attended has grown so much! I still fondly remember my own enthusiastic feelings,(while attending a clown convention in 2001) of the "AH HA" moment, when the idea for this convention came to me. It brought me much joy, as it came to fruition; from the booking of the first convention hotel, arranging the speakers and classes, inviting the vendors to hiring the entertainment . I have really cherished YOUR excitement, enthusiasm, support and appreciation so much, along the way. However, life goes on and the Conventions are now just a really fond and amazing memory for me. I personally have new goals and interests to pursue (that have more to do with creating retreats for women in transition-WIT) and less to do with painting. After 7 well attended Conventions, I was thrilled to pass the reigns to another enthusiastic and passionate Producer, Karen Owens. ([email protected]) As we head towards the PG-13, 2010 "Facepainting Around the World" Convention in Las Vegas, February 9-12th, I am personally asking you to please give Karen the same support and respect that you have shown me through the years. She will pour her heart and talents into giving you the best fun and educational experience she possibly can. More details are available at www.fpbaconvention.com. Karen has a great line- up of instructors and classes, and lots of unique stuff planned for you. Sure hope to see you there!
