Thanks for the wonderful posting on the Convention and sharing some awesome paintings, Lilly ;o) Sorry I could not attend this year ;o( The paintings are wonderful! I hope everyone gives Karen some credit, kudos, pat- on- the- back, kisses, hugs and some slack as it was her first FPBAC Production. I have always said, this production is a labor for love. Even tho I mentored Karen along the way, as much as possible, there is a personal learning curve to producing an event such as this. It really can be a logistical nightmare, at a NEW location especially. Hope everyone walked away learning alot about painting from the wonderfully talented and sharing instructors, practiced their hearts out at the jams, and played with new products in the vendor room.I hope you are able to take some time to share, in writing, some constructive suggestions for Karen,([email protected]) and the FPBAC in 2010.
Happy Valentine's Day to all! I LOVED being with so many painters. I am guessing we had about 125 - 150, but I did not hear the final tally. > > The final banquet had the BEST banquet food I have ever had! (And I have been to many convention banquets in my life!) There was a mix up in the number attending, so we started an hour late, but the truly great food and wonderful company made it worth the wait. > > Karen Owen's family helped at the front desk and were just fantastic as there was a great deal of crankiness among attendees. There was not a schedule available until the morning of each day and it seemed to change every few hours, which did not make anyone happy. One of the celebrity teachers whispered to me that logo for next year should be a question mark. But, Karen's family stayed calm, helpful and charming, which really helped everyone calm down and go with the flow. What a wonderful blessing to have such good support from those close to you. > > There was a good selection of classes, by a good variety of amazing teachers. I found an fantastic butterfly class by Cathy Colbert, which unfortunately never did make it onto the schedule. But, lucky for me I wandered into her room :) > > There were tons of vendors, with all of their best products. It was wonderful to have the paints out and to see and feel them in action. I bought many things because I could actually play with them. Most of the vendors had a wonderful painter at their booth doing demos, which made the vendor room a great place to hang out. > > I was a bit surprised that I do not have any idea of what "family friendly" body painting is. I would love to hear what the definition is. I LOVED the wonderful body painting!!! Loved, loved, loved it! But, I would have been embarassed to have had my 4 year old grand daughter see some of the art. Do we have a written definition someplace? > > It was fantastic to put the faces to names of some of the amazing people I have heard so much about. > > The jams were my very favorite. I was worried at first to start painting with some of the TOP people wandering around. But, my love of our craft won out, and I painted. Those famous people were warm and supportive and made me feel comfortable, as did everyone else. I got in some good practice, in a great supportive place. > > My personal quest at the moment is to get good, and fast, at dragon necklaces, as I am doing a class at FABAIC. So, you will see tons of my photos with those. Hopefully, as the months go on you will see me post photos showing my progress. > > Here is a selection of some art from the event. The necklaces are all mine. The mask on the lady with the gold dragon was done by Mark Reid. The blue/black mask on the lady with the maroon shirt and the painted jewel one of my dragons was done by Therese Burch. The Blue/Green Haired lady is Dawn Dewitt painting Therese Burch, I am not sure about the others. I am pretty sure the lady painting the colorful face is Cathy Colbert. The peacock eyes were done by me.
