I assume Delphi XE3 has such a unit, we can use that for inspiration.
The problem is that Delphi stuffs all helpers into the main units...
e.g. TStringHelper and TDateTimeHelper are both located in unit System...

You might want to look at the bug reported by Ido Kanner ;-)
He's using TFPSMap, not TFPGMap :)
Nevertheless I had taken a quick look, but I don't know what's really
wrong yet...
